I believe you should ‘love where you live’ – but what does that mean? Does that mean your house, your street, your neighbourhood – absolutely. Loving where you live on one level can mean all of those things, but it is so much more. On a different level, it’s the way your home makes you feel inside and how the design and decor brings you peace and happiness. There are few things I think contribute more to creating an amazing sense of place than an original piece of art that you absolutely LOVE.
An original art piece is an artist’s vision realized through their skill and their passion.
So with that in mind, I went off to The Artist Project Opening Night Party last night, looking for LOVE.
The energy and excitement at the Opening Night Party was amazing. The Better Living Centre was packed with people. If you were hoping for some of the free wine and food, it could have been annoying, the line ups were crazy long, but I just avoided those queues and spent my time admiring all the artwork.
My standout favourites at the show were:
Laura Culic – who paints full time in encaustic and oils. Her work is inspired by Landscapes and the complexity of the layers and her use of colour I found incredible.
David Adshade – a graphic designer by trade, who does Industrial Abstract Impressionism. What I loved about his ‘oxidation’ series was the way he used metal based paints and reactive solutions to create ‘rust’ or oxidation in his work. His work had a real industrial rawness about it that I thought was very intriguing. And;
Harry Enchin – who created a collection of work called TorontoTIME with the support of The City of Toronto, through the Toronto Arts Council. What Harry has done is create a collection of photo-based collages that digitally combine City of Toronto archive photos with modern day images of the identical location. Incredibly cool and as a huge Toronto fan and history buff, I really thought his images where thought provoking and interesting.
There was a tremendous display of talent last night, these were just three of my biggest LOVES.
The show is on until the 24th of February, 2013. I hope you get a chance to get out and find some LOVE of your own.
